The Mormon Church, or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has a storied history. The church only teaches the good things to its members, especially the converts.
I spent seven years in the church, and most of my extended family is involved in the church. Both sides of my family date back to the early years of the church, back when Joseph Smith was still alive.
A lot of what's in this video I never knew, though my mom, who grew up in the church whereas I converted as an adult, knew a lot of it.
Blair does get a little bit wrong. The people who left Jerusalem in the Book of Mormon were not the Lamanites. They were a group of several families who traveled across the Atlantic to what is assumed to be Central America. The group split into two, one led by Nephi and one led by Laman. They were then called the Nephites and Lamanites. The Lamanites at the split were a wicked bunch and were cursed with dark skin to mark them as different. Over the course of the Book of Mormon, the goodness and wickedness of each group switched back and forth. She also pronounces Nephi wrong. It's nee-ff-eye.
The video is part one of a two-part series. Run time 37:05.
